Help everyone in your establishment complete the Census

The next Census will be held on Tuesday 10 August 2021. Your help is required to ensure each person staying in your establishment on this date completes a Census form.

The information collected in the Census is used to inform important decisions about transport, schools, health care, infrastructure and business. It also helps plan local services for individuals, families and communities.

Here’s what will happen
A Census staff member will contact you shortly – you can identify them by their Australian Bureau of Statistics identification card.

Together, we will get ready to ensure everyone staying at your establishment on Census night completes a form.

This will include organising a representative of your organisation to act on behalf of the Australian Bureau of Statistics and:

  • undergo up to one hour of training
  • supply people with forms
  • collect completed forms from people
  • follow up with people who have not returned or completed their form
  • provide administrative data where residents (e.g. patients) are unable to complete a form.

All Census activities will be undertaken in accordance with the Census COVIDSafe Management Plan. Our field staff will provide more information about the Census and what is required. Alternatively, you can contact us at census.field.operations@abs.gov.au with:

  • contact name
  • contact details (phone and email)
  • establishment name and address
  • whether the establishment will be operational during the Census.
