28 May Victoria Tourism Industry Council congratulates Scott Morrison May 28, 2019 By Accommodation Association General Victoria, VTIC, Scott Morrison 0 21 May 2019 Sourced Via: CCH Parliament Victoria Tourism Industry Council congratulates Scott Morrison The Victoria Tourism Industry Council congratulates the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and the Liberal National Coalition team, on their success in the 2019 federal election. VTIC looks forward to working with the re-elected Coalition government as it develops policies to grow the Victorian tourism, hospitality and events industry over the next four years. Victoria’s 600,000 businesses employ 2.5 million people and make a significant contribution to the economic success of Australia. The tourism and events sector contribute more than $28 billion to the State’s economy and employ more than 215,000 people. The Visitor Economy is a major driver of Victoria’s economic prosperity, especially in our regional areas. Victoria Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Felicia Mariani said VTIC would work with the returning Coalition Government to identify where investment in Victorian priority tourism projects would be best spent. “We welcomed the $50 million Tourism Icons Package in the Federal Budget last month and now the Coalition needs to deliver this investment where it is needed most,” she said. “With regional Victoria receiving just seven cents of every international dollar being spent in Victoria, it is important to make regional attractions a priority in the budget. Investment in infrastructure across Australia has been a major priority for the Coalition Government in the leadup to the election. It is imperative that this same focus on infrastructure be applied to the future of the tourism sector in Victoria and across the nation. “VTIC acknowledges the support for tourism and events received from the Hon Bill Shorten MP and the Australian Labor Party during the election campaign.” “We, in conjunction with tourism industry councils across the country, turn our attention to working with the re-elected Morrison Government, the Opposition and cross bench to deliver on the Government’s commitments.” Media contact: Anne Wright | 03 8662 5310 | 0423 883 945 media@victorianchamber.com.au Related Articles Our plan to back Australia's tourism industry and create more jobs Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment, Simon Birmingham, says a re-elected Morrison Government will continue to grow Australia's $136 billion tourism industry as part of our plan to keep the economy strong and generate another 1.25 million jobs across Australia Positioning Australia’s Tourism Industry for the Future Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham urged stakeholders, from local and state governments to peak industry bodies and individual tourism operators to have their say on the future direction of the industry.
