This joint AA/AHA submission highlights the potential of agri-touism for regional economic growth, and the important role the hotel sector plays. It also identifies the barriers to growth including recommendations relating to migration, skills development, aviation, tourism funding and short-term rental accommodation
Submission to DEWR on Apprenticeship Priority List Methodology
This joint AA/AHA submission advocates for apprenticeship incentive funding prioritisation to be based on where it is most effective rather than choosing some industries and occupations above others. Skills development in all industries is important.
Short Term Rental Accommodation Policy Statement (updated September 2025)
After the August 2025 Board Meeting, Accommodation Australia's policy on Short Term Rental Accommodation was updated with a clearer definition of what STRA is, as well as the inclusion of advocacy on taxation treatment. Action on STRA has significantly increased globally in the last two years, driven by a concern about housing shortages and the updated background document includes the latest research on the impact of STRA and its regulation.
Submission to Jobs & Skills Australia on the Core Skills Occupation List
This joint AA/AHA submission advocates for inclusion on the CSOL, which is the gateway to sponsored migration, of a range of important occupations in the hotels sector including newly defined occupations in the Australian Bureau of Statistics classification of occupations. It also highlights the economic contribution of the hotels sector, and the significant workforce needs both now and in the future.
Pre-Budget Submission (January 2025)
This submission highlights the importance of issues for the acommodation sector such as skills, migration, taxation, energy, airline capacity, and funding for Tourism Australia, as well as recommending a national framework for regulations of short-term rental accommodation in the face of a housing crisis.
Unfair Trading Practices Submission (December 2024)
This submission makes it clear that the commercial acconnodation sector that AA represents does not in any way condone unfair practices such as drip pricing and dynamic pricing (as defined as not being surge pricing). It responds to the Treasury Consultation paper that specifically referred to accommodation bookings as where drop pricing can occur.
Commercial Building Disclosure Program Submission (September 2024)
There is a proposal to extend the NABER's commercial building rating system, which relates to building environmental efficiency, to hotels. In the same way as the NABERs rating can impact government decisions to rent space, the concern in this extention is that it could impact government procurements decisions for accommodation. As part of the consultation process, AHA and AA have made a joint submission to follow up recent meetings on the issue.
